Pevely, MO (September 9, 2006) A great week of weather and a lot of hard work by the track crew led to one of the best racing surfaces of the 2006 season at I-55 Raceway which provided some great side by side racing all night long. It was also the night in which I-55 Raceway would crown their 2006 season champions in all four divisions.
Brian Shirley of Chatham, IL put on a dominating performance in the UMP Late Model main event. Shirley led all twenty-five laps of the main event and at one point had a half-track lead over second place. But there was a tremendous battle for the second position in which four different drivers held the position at one point during the main event. Michael Kloos held the second spot during the first ten laps until Tim Manville briefly took over the spot. Before long, last week's feature winner Mark Oller moved up and took over the second position. But in the closing laps, Tim Ratajczyk, who came in to the night in second place in the season championship race, took over the second spot and held on to finish second. Mark Oller crossed the line in the third position. Bryan Collins secured the 2006 Season Championship with his fourth place finish. Collins had to recover from mechanical problems in his qualifying heat race and started near the rear of the main event. Tim Manville completed the top five.
The UMP Modified event may have been one of the best modified shows of the season at I-55 Raceway. Mark Miner and Bobby Martintoni raced side by side for the first twelve laps of the twenty lap main event. But it didn't take long for the 2006 I-55 Raceway UMP Modified Track Champion Bobby Bittle to join the two at the front. Bittle took his machine into first place by going right down the middle of Miner and Martintoni and then proceeded to hold off Martintoni in the closing laps. Miner settled for the third position with Jerry Grither taking the fourth spot and Rich Whaley finishing fifth. This was Bittle's ninth feature win of the 2006 season at I-55 Raceway and he won the points battle handily over runner up Eric Mabery.
Troy Naeger's great 2006 season continued at I-55 Raceway as he won the UMP Sportsman main event and secured the 2006 Season Championship. Mike Nicholson came home second in the main event as well as second in the point's chase. Troy Medley's strong second half of the season continued as he came home with a third place finish. Paul Bauman took the fourth spot with Ronnie Bader completing the top five.
Mike McMullin earned the victory in the AARA Pro 4 Stock main event. He held off Chris Fisher in the closing laps to take the win. Jason Crump was third with Trey Harris fourth and Brad Smith fifth. Trey Harris claimed the 2006 Season Championship in the AARA Pro 4 Stock division.
