Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Aug. 3, 2022) – Derek Hagar is going 410 racing the next two weeks.

Hagar and KO Motorsports will tackle the Ironman 55 this Friday and Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. The team will cap the weekend on Sunday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, racing in the 11th annual Capitani Classic presented by Great Southern Bank.

Next week will be the 61st annual NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s, which is Aug. 10-13 at Knoxville Raceway.

“We’re not setting high expectations because we don’t race this stuff very often with the 410,” Hagar said. “I don’t want to go out with high expectations and not meet them and be down. We’ll take it race by race and perform the best we know how to do and hopefully the results show up.”

Hagar produced a career-best 17th-place result at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 earlier this season during a rare World of Outlaws start. It marked only his third sprint car race at the high-banked oval, where he ran into mechanical problems in 2018 and qualified for the Ironman 55 in 2012 while using a 360ci engine.

“It’s been several years since I’ve ran the Ironman 55,” he said. “We made the show with our 360 and as soon as we pushed out for the feature it rained out. We went back later that year with our 410 and ran the day race for the make-up and got upside down. We hurt the car and couldn’t race that night.

“I believe we have a good base setup from when we were there earlier this year. We faded real quick in the feature when the track slicked off. There’s a couple of things we know now that we should have changed. We’re prepared for two days. We just want to make the show and be able to race with these guys.”

The Capitani Classic will mark Hagar’s first time at Knoxville Raceway this year.

“Just getting laps at Knoxville is important,” he said. “That’s one thing we lack there is laps. I wouldn’t consider us a big-track team. Everything we run is small. Whenever you go to Knoxville you have to be on your game. We’ll use the Capitani as a test session to hopefully learn something fairly quick for the Knoxville Nationals next week.”
