Sides Wraps Up World of Outlaws Event in Pevely With Good Rally

Inside Line Promotions – PEVELY, Mo. (May 26, 2020) – Jason Sides passed the third-most cars last Saturday during the finale of a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.

It was a good moment to cap a busy two-day event that featured 60-plus drivers at the high-banked oval, where Sides began the action on Friday by qualifying third quickest in his group.

“The first night we got a good pill draw and had a decent qualifying lap,” he said. “Our heat race didn’t go as planned. I got shoved up a little. It’s just part of racing. (Brad) Sweet got underneath us and I tried to turn under him, but it started spinning. Then (Carson) Macedo got by so we ended up fourth.”

The fourth-place finish locked Sides into the 14th starting position in the main event.

“They went back and tilled the track,” he said. “Marred that far back I wasn’t near free enough and was too tight until about four or five laps from the end. I got lapped and then it got spaced out where I could run the last few laps how I wanted to. It felt much better, but by then it’s too late.”

Sides was credited with a 17th-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday. Sides timed in 14th quickest in his group, but a seventh-place finish in a heat race relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown. He ended 11th in that race and was forced to use a provisional to tag the field in the main event.

“We had a pretty decent pill draw for qualifying and I just didn’t get all I could,” he said. “I slipped up a little in a corner. I went from having a decent time to 14th. Then in the heat it started well. We got up to fifth on the bottom and just didn’t get off the bottom in time. That let Ian Madsen and Aaron Reutzel back by. The Last Chance Showdown was stacked with cars so we had to take a provisional.

“We got a couple of good starts and passed a few cars early in the feature. Everybody got to running the top. I was trying the bottom, but it dried out pretty quick. I got a few cars down there, but probably stayed down too long. By the time I got up top here comes the leader and I got lapped right before an early caution. From that point you’re just racing with the few guys who are lapped.”

Sides was able to maneuver to an 18th-place result. His eight positions gained were the third most.

Next up is a two-day show at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., this Friday and Saturday.
