Wilson Excited for Ironman 55 Doubleheader This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (Aug. 1, 2018) – Greg Wilson is heading to one of his favorite tracks this weekend when the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series visits Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Alloy Wheels backed team placed seventh at the high-banked oval last year during their lone visit.

“It’s in my top five of fun race tracks to go to,” he said. “It’s just a cool place. I love going there. It’s always racy. The fans are always awesome. It’s a neat place. The fact that they’re doing two Ironman 55s over the weekend is pretty cool.”

Both nights will showcase a 55-lap feature – the longest on the World of Outlaws circuit – with $20,000 going to the winner.

“If you can get in the race the race is long,” Wilson said. “You have opportunities to move forward. There will be a lot of talented competition there so first we have to make the A Main. I’m excited to see if some of the changes we’re making are right.”

Wilson competed in New York last weekend beginning with the Big ‘R’ Outlaw Shootout on Friday at Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville. He qualified 11th quickest, placed fourth in a heat race and ended 11th in the main event. It was his best-ever finish at the track.

“The year before we were just kinda there,” he said. “This time we were halfway competitive all night. At the end of the night we didn’t do a good job on a couple of things, but we still had a lot better night than the previous year and we have something to build on.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday at Weedsport Speedway during the Empire State Challenge. Wilson timed in 19th quickest and placed seventh in a heat race on the tricky track before he rebounded in the A Main by charging from 19th to a 13th-place finish.

“We haven’t raced on something like that in a long time,” he said. “The track was really hard to get a hold of and we just didn’t do our job early in the night. At the end of the night we ended up okay by passing cars in the feature. We kinda gave away the beginning of the night, but we rebounded well in the A Main.”
