Voigt, Bittle, Herzog & Reando take victories at I-55 Raceway!

Mark Voigt Bobby Bittle Jeff Herzog Justin Reando CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY! Pevely, MO (May 28th, 2011) The I-55 Raceway track crew provided another excellent racing surface and the drivers provided another spectacular evening of racing. Mother Nature kept the rain to the north of the track and high river levels had the water right up to the edge of pit road, but nothing prevented another great night of action.   Twenty-seven UMP DIRTcar Late Models checked in the gate to try and tame the 1/3 mile high banked dirt oval. They didn’t disappoint any of the fans in attendance as the feature event had four different leaders and seven lead changes in the twenty-five showdown. John Beck jumped to the early lead from his front row outside starting spot and paced the field for a few laps before pole sitter Tim Manville moved past on the low side. Brian Shirley would slip past Beck for the second spot and proceed to race side-by-side with Manville for several laps for the lead. Meanwhile, Mark Voigt, Randy Korte, Matt Weidner, Jason Feger and Rickey Frankel were charging to the front while battling with each other and swapping positions lap after lap. As Manville and Shirley battled for the lead around the half way point, Voigt, who had been searching all over the track, finally found a fast line around the track and he began flying toward the front. He drove past Shirley and Manville and took the lead as they worked lapped traffic in the closing laps. Manville would battle back and use the lapped traffic to his advantage with two laps remaining to regain the lead. However, lapped traffic would bite him back on the final lap as Voigt found the fast line through the traffic and beat Manville out of turn four and to the checkered flag to take the win. Manville would finish second with Shirley taking third. Korte would finish a close fourth with Feger coming from the twentieth starting spot to finish fifth. The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds didn’t disappoint in their feature event either. Bobby Bittle and Scott Weber battled side by side for the lead for many laps before Bittle finally got a couple of car length lead and paced the field. Meanwhile, Weber, Ray Walsh, Rusty Griffaw and Ken Schrader put on a classic battle for the second through fifth spots. They raced two and three wide as they battled for position in the closing laps. Schrader would get to fourth with five laps remaining and then he tried to find a line past Weber and Walsh who were battling side by side for second. With three laps to go, Schrader finally cleared Walsh and then got Weber with two to go. Schrader would reel in Bittle and pull along side him down the back stretch on the final lap. As Bittle worked the top side, Schrader used the low side through turns three and four and the two raced out of turn four side by side to the checkered flag. Bittle had the momentum and would edge Schrader at the line by no more than five feet. Weber would hang on for the third spot with Walsh taking fourth. Tim Hancock would round out the top five. Jeff Herzog led all fifteen laps enroute to victory in the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event. Troy Naeger could stay close to Herzog for the lead, but could never mount a serious challenge to take over the top spot. The real battle was back for the third, fourth and fifth spots as Brad Paquet, Kevin Mosier and Trey Harris had a fierce fight for those positions. Paquet would claim the third spot in the end with Mosier holding off Harris for fourth. Justin Reando used everything he had to hold off the challenges of Jacob Rexing. Reando led the entire main event, but Rexing kept the pressure on by pulling along side Reando on several occassions. However, Reando would hold on and claim the victory. Rexing would finish second with Aron Faulkner taking third. Earl Pryor would finish fourth and Blake Jost rounded out the top five.
