Smith, Walsh, Harris & McGinnitey take wins at I-55 Raceway!

Craig Smith Ray Walsh Trey Harris Mike McGinnitey CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY! Pevely, MO (May 8th, 2010) After rain had washed out the racing action the previous two weekends, Mother Nature finally cooperated and a big field of cars were on hand to participate in the action. Craig Smith of Godfrey, Illinois claimed his first win at I-55 Raceway in the UMP DIRTcar Late Model division. Smith led all twenty five laps of the main event, but it was far from a cakewalk. During the first half of the race, Smith had Brian Shirley all over his rear bumper with Mark Voigt chasing close behind. Voigt would soon make a move on Shirley and take over the second spot and then proceed to really apply the pressure on Smith for the lead. Voigt and Smith would race side-by-side for several laps before Voigt finally appeared to have the lead. But the caution would on that same lap when Bryan Collins found the turn one wall. That would put Smith back out front with just four laps remaining with Voigt and Shirley restarting right on his tail. Smith would find the fast line around in the closing laps and would hold off Voigt for the win. Shirley would take third with Tim Manville finishing a close fourth. Jason Frankel would round out the top five. In the UMP DIRTcar Modified main event, Ray Walsh would claim the victory. Paul Bauman would take the lead at the drop of the green flag and would lead the first six laps before Walsh would power by on the high side. A few laps later Rusty Griffaw would move past Bauman and take over the second spot as he gave pursuit to Walsh to fight for the lead. As the laps began to wind down, Bauman started creeping back toward the two front runners by using the very bottom of the racetrack while Walsh and Griffaw used the very top. Bauman would take over the second spot with five laps remaining and proceeded to chase down Walsh. As Bauman moved in on Walsh, disaster would strike with just two laps remaining as Bauman would tangle with the lapped car of Terry Scurlock in turn three. Bauman would spin to a stop and would have to restart at the rear. Walsh would power his way to victory on the final restart over Griffaw. Ricky Horton would claim the third spot with Jim Black finishing fourth. Alan Conner would round out the top five. Trey Harris has started the 2010 racing season at I-55 Raceway by dominating the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman division. Harris claimed his third victory in just four races while finishing third in the one main event that he didn't win in 2010. Harris took the lead at the drop of the green flag and pulled away from the field and had a big lead before the only caution flew on lap eleven of the fifteen lap main event. On the restart, Harris would once again pull away and let everyone else battle for the second spot. Troy Naeger would steal the second spot from Jason Keller on the final lap and Brad Paquet would also get past Keller for the third spot in a photo finish at the line. Chuck Adams would round out the top five. Mike McGinnitey would power past early leader Jeff Turner to earn the victory in the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stock division. Turner would finish second with Philip Stuart taking third. Chris Fisher would claim the fourth spot while Tom Rorabacher completed the top five.
