Randy Korte claims Ken Schrader Modified Challenge at I-55 Raceway!

Korte also took the win back on July 29th during the makeup of last year's event that was postponed by rain. Seventy-three UMP DIRTcar Modifieds were on hand on what turned out to be a beautiful Saturday afternoon race. The fans that were on hand were treated to a spectacular main event in which three different drivers led during the forty lap affair. Ray Walsh jumped out to the lead on the opening lap from his front row pole starting spot, but his lead would be short-lived as Rusty Griffaw would past and take over the lead on the second lap. Griffaw's lead wouldn't last long either as the engine in his mount would expire on lap four. Korte would assume the top spot would pull away to a commanding lead. Meanwhile, Walsh, Tommie Seets, Jeff Leka, Scott Weber and Ken Schrader were having a fierce battle for the second through sixth spots. As Korte caught lapped traffic, he would encounter difficulty working past cars running two and three wide as he tried to put them a lap down. This would allow Walsh and Weber to catch Korte and make it a three car fight for the lead. Walsh would pull along side Korte on several occassions as they worked the heavy lapped traffic. However, it would be Weber that would slow on lap twenty-seven with a broken rear end and bring out the caution. This would give Korte an open track without lapped traffic and he would once again pull away from Walsh as he bolted to victory. Walsh would have his hands full holding off Seets in the closing laps for the second spot. But Walsh would hold off Seets and finish second with Seets taking third. Leka would cross the line fourth with Schrader completing the top five. Tim Hancock charged from the twentieth starting spot to finish sixth and Rick Conoyer came all the way from the twenty-second starting spot to finish seventh. Brian Lynn crossed the line in eighth while Ken Rumble took the ninth spot.
