Dave Blaney claims NASCAR Night Modified win; Will Vaught & Robbie Eilers take Victories!

CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (July 25, 2007) Twelve NASCAR drivers were on hand at I-55 Raceway for the M&M Night of NASCAR Stars charity event. Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace, Mike Wallace, Dave Blaney, David Reutimann, Phil Parsons, Brendan Gaughan, Jason Leffler, Stephen Leight, Ron Hornaday, Rick Crawford and David Gilliland were on hand and competed against each in a complete race program driving UMP DIRTcar Modifieds. Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer were also scheduled to be on hand, but their flight had to make an emergency landing and they were unable to make it to the event. The NASCAR Stars racing program was kicked off with qualifying and it was track co-owner Ken Schrader setting fast time with a lap of 13.655 second around the 1/3 mile high banked dirt oval. Two heat races were on tap next and field was inverted with the fast qualifying times put to the back of the heat races. In the first heat race, Ken Schrader came from the back of the grid to earn the victory over Dave Blaney with David Gilliland crossing the line in third. In the second heat race, it was Kenny Wallace doing the same as he came from the back to earn the victory in the second heat. Jason Leffler took the second spot with Mike Wallace finishing third. The first four rows were inverted for their feature event putting Schrader and K. Wallace back in the fourth row for the start of the twenty lap main event. David Gilliland, Ron Hornaday and David Reutimann put on the three-way battle for the top spot in the early laps. In didn't take long for Jason Leffler and Dave Blaney to join the battle up front with Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace right in the mix as well. Before long, those drivers with the most dirt track experience began to show their muscle as Dave Blaney, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace took over the top three spots. Dave Blaney grew more confident with each lap in his Ray Walsh owned Impressive Race Cars modified and used the high side to pace the field around the track. Kenny Wallace began to move in to challenge Dave Blaney and with two laps remaining he pulled side-by-side with Dave Blaney down the back stretch. However, Kenny Wallace drove into turn three too hard around the bottom and spun the car bringing out the final caution. That set up Ken Schrader in the second spot to challenge Dave Blaney for the lead. However, Dave Blaney proved too strong on the restart and powered his way to victory with Ken Schrader taking second. Jason Leffler came home third with Brendan Gaughan fourth and Kenny Wallace completed the top five. In the $2,500 to win UMP DIRTcar Late Model main event Will Vaught of Crane, MO picked up an impressive win. Randy Korte led the first twenty-one laps of the main event, but a three-way battle for the top spot began to heat up after a lap eighteen caution that include Vaught, Korte and Steve Sheppard. Korte and Vaught were on the low-side with Sheppard racing around the high side. Sheppard was able to pull along side Korte shortly after the restart and Korte moved his line higher up the track to try and find a faster line. That opened the door for Vaught on the low side and he drove by Korte and Sheppard on lap twenty-one and held on to pick up the victory. Korte crossed the line second with Sheppard third. Danny Haynes was fourth and Jeff Johns rounded out the top five. Forty-three UMP DIRTcar Sportsman cars were on hand and it was Robbie Eilers of Highland, IL taking the victory. Jimmy Cummins led the first half of the twenty-lap main event before Eilers moved past. Gary Haynes quickly moved past Cummins and took over the second spot and gave Eilers all he could handle in the closing laps, but Eilers held on for the win. Haynes was second, Cummins third with Kent Nations fourth and Troy Medley fifth.
