Korte, Weber, Nations & Fisher take wins at I-55 Raceway's Race Night for Special Champions!

CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (July 14, 2007) Shop N Save and WIL 92.3 partnered with I-55 Raceway to put on a special event to raise money for the Special Olympics. A large field of cars and a huge fan turnout raised lots of money for the Special Olympics. A field of thirty UMP DIRTcar Late Models were on hand for the $5,000 to win special. In the main event it was Randy Korte of Highland, IL that put on a dominating performance as he lap all but the first eight finishers in the thirty lap main event that went caution free. Korte crossed the finish line with a full half track lead over second place finish Jeff Johns. Tim Ratajczyk started on the pole for the main event after winning his qualifying heat and the dash and would lead the first three laps before Korte would sweep past him and pull away. Bryan Collins charged through the field as well as he moved from his eighth starting position to finish third behind Jeff Johns. Tim Manville also was impressive as he came from the tenth starting spot to finish fourth. Billy Faust completed the top five. Scott Weber of Festus, MO won his first UMP DIRTcar Modified feature of the season as he topped a stellar field of modifieds to claim the $1,200 top prize. Ray Walsh jumped out front early but the top five cars ran in a pack for the entire twenty lap distance of the main event. Weber and Walsh raced side-by-side for several laps before Weber edged out front. Brent Mullins tried to make it three-wide for the lead on several occassions and he slipped past Walsh in the final laps to claim a second place finish. Doug Wood was strong all night long and battled for the lead as well and finished a strong fourth right behind Walsh. Mike Harrison crossed the line in fifth with Chad Kinder coming from deep in the field to claim the sixth spot. Kent Nations claimed the UMP DIRTcar Sportsman main event. Nations led all fifteen laps of the main event but had to hold off challenges from Paul Bauman early in the main event and then the challenges of Troy Medley in the closing laps. Troy Naeger charged through the field after starting ninteenth to finish third. Jimmy Cummins came home fourth and Jason Keller completed the top five. Chris Fisher took the UMP DIRTcar Pro 4 Stock victory over Gary Price.
