CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (September 2, 2006) Mark Oller of Highland, IL roared to his first feature win of the 2006 racing season at I-55 Raceway in the UMP Late Model division. Oller and track point leader Bryan Collins battled it out side-by-side and nose-to-tail for the first twelve laps of the event until a flat left rear tire forced Collins to pit during a caution. Oller was then able to race away from the rest of the field in the final half of the event while Collins raced back through traffic to a sixth place finish. Dave Jumper and Craig Smith battled it out for the second position with Jumper holding on at the end. Tim Ratajczyk came home with a fourth place finish while Jeff Johns recovered from being involved in the big crash early on in the main event to round out the top five. The late model feature event got off to a rough start when big crash occurred at the exit of turn two that involved some ten cars on lap three. Of all the cars involved, only Jeff Beyers wasn't able to restart, but several continued with missing sheet metal and other minor damage. One of the most dramatic finishes in recent history took place in the UMP Modified division. Ray Wagner led the first eighteen laps of the twenty lap main event as Mike Harrison and Bobby Bittle fought it out right behind him for the second position. But coming out of turn four to take the white flag, Wagner bobbled which allowed Harrison and Bittle to slip past. Wagner fought back trying to reclaim the top spot but came up short. Harrison crossed the line first for the win with Bittle taking the second spot and Wagner settling for third. All three cars crossed the finish line together. Mark Miner raced to a fourth place finish while Joe Puricelli completed the top five. Chuck Adams earned the win in the UMP Sportsman division. The main event saw four different leaders in the fifteen lap event. Point leader Troy Naeger led the opening laps until he spun in turn two and turned the lead over to Ronnie Bader. Bader led several laps until Paul Bauman powered his way to the front using the high side. Bauman led for several laps until a mechanical problem ended his night early. Once Bauman dropped out, Adams who had moved in the second position, took over the lead and held off Bader and Steve Maisel for the win. Maisel powered his way into the second position on the final lap and Bader settled for the third spot. Mike Nicholson came home with a fourth place finish while Paul Belken completed the top five. Trey Harris won the AARA Pro 4 Stock main event as he battled the entire distance with Conrad Miner and Jason Crump. Crump edged out Miner for the second spot while Chris Fisher followed Miner across the line in the fourth spot. Brad Smith rounded out the top five.
