CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (August 19, 2006) Brian Collins and Ed Dixon provided fans with one of the most thrilling finishes of the season in the UMP Late Model division as the two not only raced each other, but also raced Mother Nature. Collins and Dixon battled relentlessly for the top spot through a steady sprinkling of rain drops in the final fifteen laps of the twenty-five lap main event. Collins slipped past Dixon with just five laps remaining as slipped under Dixon coming out of turn two. Dixon didn't give up the fight and chased Collins through heavy lapped traffic. As the two came out of turn four to take the white flag, the rain intensified and began coming down much harder. Collins slipped as he came out of turn two and Dixon powered past him down the back stretch. As they went into turn three, Collins showed his muscle as he powered through turns three and four and moved back past Dixon and held on at the finish line by a car length. Trouble ensued after they crossed the finish line and went into turn one and the race track began getting very slick. About eight cars including the top three spun in turn one after the checkered flag as the track became greasy quickly with the rain really pouring down. There was no real damage to any of the cars, but the very slick track made it difficult for the cars to even get off the track. Two cars remained stuck on the very slick track almost forty-five minutes after the event was over. Billy Faust battled the first half of the feature with Collins for the second position and then slipped back into the third spot and chased the leaders the remainder of the way. The top three pulled away from the rest of the field as the event went all twenty-five laps without a caution. Tim Ratajczyk took the fourth position and early leader Jeff Johns came home in the fifth spot after he had won his qualifying heat race and the dash earlier in the night. Bobby Bittle and Scott Weber put on a classic battle in the UMP Modified division. The two fought in out for the first sixteen laps of the twenty lap main event. Weber tried numerous times to slip under Bittle lap after lap but couldn't make the move stick. Bittle finally got away from Weber in the closing laps, as Weber battled to hang on to the second position as Mark Miner moved in to challenge for that spot. Miner was able to steal the second spot from Weber as they came down side-by-side at the checkered flag with Miner just a nose in front. Ray Walsh came home fourth and Doug Wood completed the top five. Ricky Horton crossed the line in the sixth spot and Rick Stevenson made a charge from the twenty-second starting spot to claim seventh. After going all season without a feature win, Troy Medley claimed his second consecutive UMP Sportsman main event. Medley held off the hard charging Jason Keller for all fifteen laps to earn the win. Paul Belken took the third position, Steve Maisel was fourth and Kent Nations completed the top five. Point leader Troy Naeger suffered a flat tire late in the event and came back out to salvage a fourteenth place finish. Gary Price took the win in the AARA Pro 4 Stock division as he bested Tim Hoffman. Trey Harris came home third, Mike McMullin was fourth and David Racer rounded out the top five.
