CLICK HERE FOR PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (May 13, 2006) Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, MI made his first ever visit to I-55 Raceway and earned a hard fought victory in the UMP Late Model division. Schlenk, who stated he had raced I-55 Raceway a thousand times on a computer video game, battled the entire twenty-five laps of the main event with Danny Haynes. Haynes took the early lead at the drop of the green flag, but Schlenk worked his way past Haynes on lap four. Haynes proceeded to stay glued to the bumper of Schlenk for the rest of the event but was unable to find his way back around Schlenk for the lead. Brian Shirley moved up quickly to the third spot and looked like he would challenge for the lead, but Schlenk and Haynes proved too tough and Shirley settled into the third position till the drop of the checkered flag. Mark Oller came home in the fourth position with Tim Ratajczyk completing the top five. Ray Walsh brought his broom with him as swept the night's action in the UMP Modified division by winning his qualifying heat, the dash and the main event. Jerry Grither challenged Walsh on just about every lap of the main event but could not find his way around Walsh. Grither also had his hands full with the cars behind him. Eric Mabery, Doug Wood and Ray Wagner each took their turn trying to get past Grither for the second spot. Those three swapped positions on just about every lap with Mabery claiming the third position at the line. Wood crossed the line in fourth and Wagner took the fifth spot. The UMP Sportsman division ran two main events as they had to make up one from three weeks ago when the rain came and shortened that event. Their first feature event got the night's racing action underway. Troy Naeger dominated the event as he pulled away to sizeable lead. Mike Nicholson also had a strong run as he pulled away from the rest of the field in the second position. The battle for positions was back at the third position where Paul Bauman, Tom Smallwood, Ronnie Bader and Troy Medley were fighting it out. In the end, Naeger crossed the finish line first with Nicholson coming across in second. However, once the cars came off the track to the scales for post-race inspection, the winner Troy Naeger was disqualified as he came up a few pounds under the required minimum weight. That handed the win to Mike Nicholson and then second place went to Paul Bauman with Tom Smallwood third. Ronnie Bader was given the fourth position and Troy Medley fifth. The second main event once again saw Troy Naeger lead all fifteen laps but he had Ronnie Bader and Troy Medley staying close and looking for a way past. But Naeger proved too strong and went on to victory. This time, Naeger had added plenty of extra weight and kept the win. Medley claimed the second position with Bader third. Mike Nicholson's good night continued as he came home fourth and Paul Bauman completed the top five. Conrad Miner is now two for two in the AARA Pro 4 Stock division. He claimed his second win in as many weeks and he held off Chris Fisher for the win. Jason Crump took the third spot with Brad Smith fourth and Homer Mooney fifth.
