Pevely, MO (April 30, 2005) A great field of cars turned out at I-55 Raceway and they put on a fast and exciting show. On Saturday morning, track officials were still unsure they could get tonight's event in after heavy rains on Thursday and Friday. However, the track crew worked diligently most of the day and with sunshine and breezy conditions, the action got started right on time. Thirty-two United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) Late Models checked in the gate to compete. Randy Korte of Highland, IL made his first visit of the 2005 racing season to I-55 Raceway and topped the thirty-two car field as he swept the night's events by winning his qualifying heat, the dash and the main event. Korte led all twenty-five laps of the main event as he jumped to the lead from his front row pole starting position and held off the early challenges of Ed Dixon enroute to the win. Korte was able to pull away in the closing laps as he worked the lapped traffic masterfully. Dixon slid backwards early on as he dropped all the way to the fifth spot before working his way back to the front late in the race and claimed the second spot. Tim Ratajczyk settled for the third spot after battling many laps with Dixon for second. Dave Jumper took the fourth spot while Billy Faust completed the top five. Tom Ratajczyk led the final nineteen laps of the twenty lap main event in the UMP Modified main event. Ratajczyk had to hold off Jerry Grither for all nineteen of those laps as Grither tried every way possible to move past Ratajczyk. But it was Ratajczyk holding on for the win with Grither taking the second position. Eric Mabery claimed the third position with Matt Goulden and Brian Worley finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Rich Whaley claimed the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers Hard Charger Award as he improved his finishing position the most places over his starting position. Paul Bauman took the AARA Sportsman main event. Troy Naeger led most of the event until an oil leak produced a big fire under the hood of his machine. Mike Nicholson assumed the lead on the restart after the caution for Naeger's fire but Bauman would need just one lap to move past Nicholson. Bauman would lead the rest of the way and claim the victory. Paul Belken took the second spot with Chuck Adams, Troy Medley and Matt Hancock rounding out the top five. Pat Brewer led wire to wire in the AARA Pro 4 Stock main event. Brewer got the jump on Rodger Ernst at the green flag and never looked back. Ernst took the second spot with Scott Geary claiming third.
