Pevely, MO (June 26, 2004) Ed Dixon of Washington, MO earned a hard fought victory in the U.M.P. (United Midwestern Promoters) Late Model division at I-55 Raceway. Dixon held off no less than five other drivers throughout the twenty-five lap event. Billy Faust provided the most consistant pressure on Dixon, as he drove around the very bottom while Dixon used the top for most of the event. Jeff Johns, Mark Oller, Danny Haynes and Clay Baumann all took their turn at battling for the lead. At one point at about lap twelve, Faust, Haynes, Oller and Baumann battled four wide for second. Baumann would suffer a flat left rear shortly thereafter and his shot at a third straight win came to an end. Dixon held off a late charge by Faust to take the win, Faust took second, Johns moved past Oller in the final few laps to take third and Butch Kruckeberg moved up to finish behind Oller in the fifth position. Billy Faust earned the G&M Steel Dash for Cash. Faust's victory in the dash earned him the $100 prize. The U.M.P. Modified division kept the excitement going as it came down to a last lap pass to decide the winner. There were three and four wide battles throughout the field in the modified feature with the top six cars running in a tight group and battling for the lead throughout the event. Scott Weber, Ray Walsh, Eric Mabery and Mark Miner battled for the lead throughout the early part of the race. It wasn't long before Jim Shereck and Dean Hoffman joined the battle up front. As the race came down to the final few laps, Weber took the lead away from Walsh by using the middle of the track. Shereck moved past Mabery using the very bottom while Hoffman followed Weber through the middle. With two laps remaining, Walsh hit the wall and suffered front end damage, taking himself out the event. Weber continued running his line right down the middle of the track as Shereck closed in on him using the very bottom. Shereck pulled along side Weber going into turn one on the final lap and then pulled ahead by and half car length down the backstretch. The two battled side-by-side through the final two turns and Shereck edged Weber out at the line to get the win. Dean Hoffman crossed the line third, Mabery was fourth and Miner fifth. The AARA Sportman division continues to be one of the most competitive classes as Ricky Horton took the lead with just two laps remaining in the main event to earn the victory. Paul Belken lead for the first thirteen laps, but Horton kept the pressure on and finally pulled off the pass. Mike Nicholson also made a late race pass on Scott Stuppy to take the third spot. Buddy Lowry followed Stuppy across the line in the fifth spot. Ron Imm, Jr. claimed the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers Hard Charger Award. Imm started seventeenth in the main event and worked his way through the field to an eighth place finish. Imm will receive a $200 bonus for being the hard charger. Don Hoffman won his second feature event of the season in the AARA Pro 4 Stock division. Hoffman moved past Gary Price as they came down the front stretch to take the white flag. Robert Denny also got around Price and took the second spot. Price came home third, Ron Lyons fourth and Greg Truman fifth. The RAMS Mini-Stocks made their only appearance of the season at I-55 Raceway and Dave Wofford swept the night's events. Wofford led all fifteen laps of the main event, holding off fifteen year old Jon Paul Reando. Shannon Birch took third, Rick Ruch was fourth and Chris Boyd fifth. A.A.R.A.
