Pevely, MO (May 8, 2004) After bad weather had postponed the action for previous two weeks at I-55 Raceway, 109 racecars filled the pit area on a beautiful evening. Justin Allgaier sat on the pole for the feature event in the U.M.P. (United Midwestern Promoters) Late Model division after winning his heat and the dash. Allgaier jumped out into the lead on the opening lap, but his turn up front would be short lived as Kenny Helmick moved under Allgaier and took the lead on lap two. Allgaier fought back and regained the lead only to see Ed Dixon drive right down the middle between Allgaier and Helmick to take the lead coming out of turn four on the fourth lap. Dixon would power away to a huge lead as the race went caution free for the first nineteen laps. Matt Taylor moved up to fight with Allgaier for the second position over the final twenty laps of the event. Mark Voigt moved up to the fourth position suffered a mechanical problem as the race was set to go back to green after the lap nineteen caution. Voigt's car came to a stop on the back stretch as they were coming around to take the green on the restart, causing a chain reaction crash that collected Dave Jumper, Kyle Steffens, Brian Garner and Clay Bauman. Jumper and Voigt's night both ended after the incident. The caution waved again a couple of laps later when Mark Oller spun in turn two and Don Klein drove over the nose of his car, which took out both cars. Ed Dixon went on to take the win, followed by Taylor, Allgaier, Brian Wolfmeier and Steffens. Scott Weber picked up his second victory of 2004 at I-55 Raceway in the U.M.P. Modified division. Weber held off Bobby Bittle and Brian Wolfmeier as they battled lap after lap for the lead. About half way through the event, Bittle and Wolfmeier made contact coming out of turn four and Wolfmeier clipped the large tire at the turn four infield opening and spun. Significant damage to Wolfmeiers front suspension ended his night. Bittle came home second, Doug Wood third, Dennis Richards was fourth and Brent Mullins completed the top five. Kevin Epperson had a rough night as he got upside down on the backstretch during the dash event. Epperson was alright, but was out for the night after a strong run earlier in his heat. Ricky Horton won the AARA (Allied Auto Racing Association) Sportsman main event. Seven different cars battled for the lead during the fifteen lap event. Scott Stuppy led most of the early laps, holding off challenges from Ed Lowry and Jim Smith early on. Horton moved past Stuppy for the lead on lap nine and never looked back. Paul Bauman moved past Stuppy a couple of laps later and finished second. Stuppy was third, Ed Lowry fourth and Jim Smith fifth. Homer Mooney took the win in the AARA Pro 4 Stock division. Don Hoffman took second, Steven Ide was third, Larry Kirkpatrick fourth and Pat Brewer fifth. U.M.P.
