August 2, 2003 Results

Pevely, MO (August 2, 2003) Ed Dixon led the final seventeen laps of the UMP Late Model feature event to claim his third feature win of the season at I-55 Raceway. The event got off to a rocky start with a six car pileup on the opening lap. Danny Haynes left rear axle broke away, sending his left rear tire flying off the car and sending Hayne's car out of control. Dean Motsinger, Kevin Gundaker, Clay Baumann, Steve Shive and Billy Laycock all made hard contact. Gundaker's car up in the air and Shive's car went underneath it, pinning Gundaker's car completely off the ground between Shive's and Motsinger's cars. None of the drivers were injured but only Gundaker was able to restart the event, only to have mechanical problems a few laps later. Dave Jumper was the early leader as he paced the event for the first eight laps before surrendering the lead to Dixon. Tim Ratajczyk took over the second spot a few laps later and attempted to mount a challenge against Dixon for the lead, but just didn't have enough and settled for second. Brian Wolfmeier and Kyle Steffens would also get past Jumper late in the event as they battled for third. Wolfmeier held off Steffens and took third with early race leader Jumper finishing fifth. The rains came just five laps into the UMP Modified feature with Dennis Richards leading. This event will be re-ran in it's entirity on Saturday, August 16th. All twenty-four cars that started will restart in their original starting positions.
