Pevely, MO (June 28, 2003) A huge crowd came out for Fan Appreciation Night at I-55 Raceway to see Tony Stewart and Ken Schrader battle with the weekend warriors in the U.M.P. Late Model division. But it was the young driver from Riverton, IL, Justin Allgaier that stole the show. Allgaier took the lead on the opening lap from his pole starting position as he beat outside front row starter Ed Dixon into the first turn. Allgaier moved up to the top of the track and kept a fast pace up on the cushion. Dixon moved to the bottom and moved past Allgaier for the lead on lap nine. Dixon would only lead for three laps before he suffered a flat left rear tire and brought out the caution. That allowed Mark Gansmann and Tony Stewart to move up and challenge Allgaier for the lead. Gansmann applied the most pressure as pulled along side Allgaier lap after lap as they went through the corners, but Allgaier pulled ahead down each straight away. Tony Stewart brought out the events final caution as he spun on the final lap coming out of turn four as he battled with Allgaier and Gansmann for the lead. That set up a one lap shootout for the win. Allgaier held off Gansmann and picked up the win. Brian Wolfmeier was third, Dean Hoffman fourth and Kevin Gundaker rounded out the top five. Ken Schrader was involved in a crash in his qualifying heat race and was unable to make repairs for the feature. Dairy Queen, who is a new track sponsor at I-55 Raceway had a special promotion for Fan Appreciation Night. Before the late model feature, all the drivers names were put into a hat and one name was drawn. If that driver wins the feature that night, everyone in attendance gets a coupon for a free Sundae at Dairy Queen. Justin Allgaier's name was the one drawn before the start of the feature. With his win, I-55 Raceway handed out 5,000 coupons for a free Sundae. In the U.M.P. Modified division, it was the current track point leader Ray Walsh who dominated as he swept the night's events. Jim Shereck had his best run of the season at I-55 Raceway as he came home second. Brian Wolfmeier was third, Bobby Bittle fourth and Brian Worley fifth. Paul Belken picked up the win in the AARA Sportsman division. Belken led all fifteen laps as he held of Paul Bauman who was second. David Bardin came home third, Ed Lowry fourth and Steve Borgetti was fifth.
