June 7, 2003 Results

Pevely, MO (June 7, 2003) One of the greatest battles ever at I-55 Raceway took place in the U.M.P. Late Model division between two veteran drivers that have raced for many years at the track. Kevin Gundaker and Ed Dixon started on the front row of the main event and ran nose to tail and side by side the entire twenty five laps. Gundaker beat Dixon to turn one on the opening lap and moved to the top side of the track with Dixon right on his rear bumper. The caution waved on lap eight as several cars made contact on the front stretch and sending Clay Baumann into the outside wall and ending his night. Once the green flag waved again, Gundaker and Dixon resumed the two car battle for the lead. The caution waved again on lap twelve for a multi car crash in turn two. The crash eliminated the current late model point leader Tim Ratajczyk as well as Chuck Baird, Brent Kreke and Don Klein. On the restart, the Gundaker-Dixon battle resumed. Dixon pulled along side Gundaker on several occasions, but could never make a complete pass. Gundaker held on for the win, Dixon was second, Steve Shive third, Mark Oller fourth and Brian Wolfmeier fifth. Scott Weber gave another dominating performance in the U.M.P. Modified division. Weber led all twenty laps to pick up the win. Point leader Ray Walsh had another good run as he finished second. Brian Worley was third, Brian Wolfmeier fourth and Ray Wagner was fifth. Ed Lowry claimed his first AARA Sportsman victory of the season. Todd McGraw came home second, Scott Stuppy third, Ron Imm, Jr. fourth and Bob Schmidt was fifth. U.M.P.
