Pevely, MO (May 24, 2003) The rains came and brought the race program to an early end at I-55 Raceway. However, the U.M.P. Late Model division was able to get their entire portion of the program in. Randy Korte made his first visit of 2003 to I-55 Raceway and took a hard fought victory. Korte and Ed Dixon battled side by side for the first eight laps of the feature before Dixon caught a piece of the wall on the backstretch and flattened his right rear tire. On the restart, it was Danny Haynes and Kyle Steffens moving up to battle with Korte for the lead until on lap fourteen when Steffens jumped the cushion and found the wall in turn two, which ended his night. That allowed Brian Wolfmeier to move up and battle for the lead, however Korte proved to be too strong and went on to victory. Wolfmeier took second, Kevin Gundaker moved up from the eighteenth starting position to claim third. Danny Haynes was fourth and Dave Jumper fifth. The U.M.P. Modifieds feature took to the track as a light rain began to fall. They were able to get to lap ten before the rain started coming down too hard, making the track too slick to continue racing. The race made it to the half way point and was called a complete race. Ray Walsh led all ten laps to take the win. Rich Whaley held off Dennis Richards for second. Bobby Bittle and Brent Thompson completed the top five. All the other divisions feature events were cancelled and the prize money was split equally between all of those scheduled to start the feature. No points will be awarded for these classes features.
