Dixon, Hoffman & Bauman roll to victory! Pevely, MO (August 3, 2002) Another day of blistering heat greeted the drivers and fans at I-55 Raceway. The action on the track was just as hot. In the UMP Late Model division, a four car battle for the lead raged on during the early laps. Tim Ratajczyk took the early lead from the pole position. Jim Durbin pulled along side Ratajczyk on the high side lap after lap. Meanwhile, Ed Dixon stayed right behind those two, looking for an opening. As those three battled, Clay Baumann pulled up to join the fight. On lap eight, Dixon finally moved past Durbin to take over second. As the leaders moved into lapped traffic, Dixon found the quickest way through and took the lead from Ratajczyk. Ratajczyk fought back lap after lap but came up short at the end and had to settle for second. Baumann took third, with Durbin fourth and Kyle Steffens fifth. Thirty-seven UMP Modifieds filled the pit area and kept the fans on the edge of their seats. Dean Hoffman recovered from a crash earlier in the night during the dash to claim the feature win. Hoffman led all twenty laps, holding off a late race challenge from Rich Whaley. Jim Shereck stayed right on Whaley's rear bumper to finish third, current track point leader Scott Weber worked his way through the field to finish fourth. Tom Ratajczyk rounded out the top five. Paul Bauman claimed his second AARA Sportman win of the season. Bauman led all fifteen laps, holding off pole-sitter Danny Haynes. Ricky Horton powered his way to third, with Todd McGraw finishing fourth and Brian Worley fifth. Dave Heinrichs buzzed away to a win in the AARA Wannabees division.
