Durbin, Grotz & Belken claim victories at I-55! Pevely, MO (July 27, 2002) Jim Durbin drove to his first UMP Late Model win of 2002 at I-55 Raceway. Dave Jumper battled Durbin early on for the lead, but Durbin soon found the fast line by using the top and pulled away to win by full straight-away. Jumper had to hold off the current track points leader Tim Ratajczyk for second. Danny Haynes came home fourth and Kyle Steffens fifth. The UMP Modified feature provided tonight's fireworks. Ray Wagner jumped out front early, but Steve Grotz moved past Wagner on the high side on the fifth lap. From there, the battle was on as six and sometimes seven cars battled for the lead. Scott Weber was able to wrestle the lead from Grotz on lap twelve but before he could lead a lap, he found the turn four wall. Grotz reassumed the lead on the restart and Rich Whaley moved in to battle Grotz for the lead. But soon thereafter, Ray Walsh moved past Whaley to take over second. Walsh tried to find his way around Grotz but he too couldn't find the right line and Grotz held on for the win. Walsh was second, Wagner third, Jim Shereck fourth and Whaley rounded out the top five. Paul Belken continues to be near unbeatable in the AARA Sportsman division. Belken led all fifteen laps to take the win. Ricky Horton held off a hard charging Todd McGraw to claim second. Mark Blanke followed McGraw across the line to take fourth and Paul Bauman completed the top five.
