Dixon, Weber and Belken claim victories at I-55! Pevely, MO (July 6, 2002) Washington, MO's Ed Dixon earned his fifth win of 2002 at I-55 Raceway by beating an impressive field of UMP Late Models. It wasn't easy as Jim Durbin took the early lead by using the cushion around the top of the track. Dixon fell in line directly behind Durbin and stayed glued to Durbin's back bumper. As those two battled for the lead, Terry English, Tim Ratajczyk and Mark Oller found themselves together battling for third. Finally on lap six, Dixon made a move under Durbin and took the lead. The caution flag flew on the next lap for the spin of Billy Laycock, allowing the leaders to get bunched up again on the restart. English found his way around Durbin just two laps later and began to chase down Dixon. Dixon continued to use the cushion around the top, while English attempted lap after lap to find a faster line, using the bottom, middle and top. As the laps began to wind down, Dixon stretched out his lead to several car lengths and took the win over English. Tim Ratajczyk used lapped traffic to by Durbin for third, Durbin was fourth and Mark Oller completed the top five. Scott Weber continues to show his domination in the UMP Modified division. Weber took the lead at the drop of the green flag and checked out on the remainder of the field. Rusty Griffaw tried to keep close, but had to settle for a distant second. Brent Thompson had his most impressive finish of 2002 at I-55 as he finished third by holding off Rich Whaley. Leroy Haney edged out Dean Hoffman to claim fifth. Paul Belken just keeps on winning in the AARA Sportsman division. Belken led all fifteen laps to take the victory over Mark Blanke. Scott Stuppy was third, Ricky Horton fourth and last weeks feature winner Paul Bauman was fifth. Next Saturday, July 13th, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws return for their second visit this season. UMP Late Models will also be competing for $2000 to win.
