Kruckeberg, Hoffman & Belken roll to victory! Pevely, MO (June 22, 2002) Butch Kruckeberg had never won a UMP Late Model feature at I-55 Raceway until tonight and he possibly drove his best race ever to take the win. Ed Dixon was looking to push his winning streak to four straight after dominating his heat and the dash. Dixon jumped out to the early lead in the feature and was able to open up a four car length lead. But Kruckeberg found a fast line around the 1/3 mile oval right in the middle of the track. On lap six he pulled right up on the back bumper of Dixon and began to pressure him for the lead. Dixon stayed on the very bottom and Kruckeberg moved past Dixon on the ninth lap using the middle groove. Dixon then moved to the top to find a faster line, but there was no cushion on the top and that allowed Tim Ratajczyk to moved past Dixon into second. Kruckeberg opened up a half-straightaway lead until he got into lapped traffic. That allowed Ratajczyk and Dixon to close right up to his back bumper. Ratajczyk was able to get along side Kruckeberg in the traffic, but Kruckeberg muscled his way through the traffic and pulled away to the win. Ratajczyk came home second and Dixon a close third. Mark Oller came from tenth to finish fourth and Danny Haynes completed the top five. The UMP Modifieds continue to put on an impressive show. Scott Weber jumped out to the early lead. Weber lead the first eleven laps before Dean Hoffman got past him to take the lead. Two laps later, Brent Mullins moved past Weber and began to challenge Hoffman for the lead. However, Hoffman was just too tough and held on for the win. Mullins was second, Weber third, Eric Mabery fourth and Bobby Bittle fifth. Paul Belken continues to dominate the AARA Sportsman division. Belken held off Ricky Horton to pick up the victory. Scott Stuppy was third, Dave Jenkins fourth and Jim Troutman fifth.
