Ratajczyk Roars to Victory at I-55! Pevely, MO (June 8, 2002) A near perfect evening for racing brought out a huge crowd and a lot of cars to I-55 Raceway. One hundred twenty one cars came through the gates to challenge the high banks including the current UMP National Late Model Point leader Terry English. Current track point leader Tim Ratajczyk kicked things off in the UMP Late Model division by besting Mark Oller and Dave Jumper in the first heat. In the second heat, Terry English worked his way from a last row starting spot to claim the win. Billy Faust was second and Don Klein third. In the third heat, Jim Durbin pulled away and picked up the win over Mark Burgtorf and Clay Baumann. Terry English jumped out front and handily won the dash over Jim Durbin and Tim Ratajczyk. In the twenty-five lap main event, Terry English took off from his pole starting position and began to open up a sizeable lead. However, Tim Ratajczyk found the fast way around the track using the very bottom and began to reel in English. Ratajczyk made the pass for the lead on the tenth lap and was able to hold off the challenges of English. Ratajczyk was able to work his way through lapped traffic and take the victory. Ed Dixon charged through the field from his eighteenth starting spot, after having a flat tire in his heat, to finish fourth behind Jim Durbin. Mark Oller came home fifth. In the UMP Modified division, Scott Weber ended Rich Whaley's winning streak after Whaley had swept the events the two previous weeks. Whaley didn't make it easy for Weber, as he stayed glued to Weber's rear bumper for the entire twenty laps. Weber never made a mistake and Whaley had to settle for second. Rusty Griffaw was third, Tom Ratajczyk fourth and Kyle Steffens fifth. Paul Belken continued his dominance in the AARA Sportsman division as he completed yet another sweep. Scott Stuppy kept it interesting, but could never make it past Belken and settled for second. Ricky Horton, Dan Dixon and Marty Heck rounded out the top five. Rick Ruch brought his mighty Mustang to I-55 and won his second straight RAMS feature in as many nights. Marty Boyer made a few attempts to get under Ruch for the lead, but could never make it stick and came home second. Kenny Harris was third, Shannon Burch fourth and RAMS Series points leader Jathon Cruse completed the top five.
