Oller Out Duels Tough Field at I-55! PEVELY, MO (July 21, 2001) The UMP Late Models provided another great night of action at I-55 Raceway. Danny Haynes and Mark Oller started on the front row of a stellar field of late models. Oller, of Highland, IL, jumped out to the early lead, but the race was halted on the second lap when Danny Maguire and Bill Masters made contact on the front straight. Maguire got into the wall and then went upside down. Maguire was able to walk away uninjured. The race resumed with Oller leading the way until Kevin Gundaker made the pass for the lead on the eighth lap. Gundaker, Oller and Haynes battled two and three wide for the lead for several laps. Haynes took the lead on lap fifteen and appeared to be on his way to victory, but Oller made the pass for the lead with just two laps to go. It was Oller?s first win of the season at I-55 Raceway as he leads the battle for the track championship as well. Haynes finished second. Ed Dixon came from his eleventh starting spot to finish third. Clay Baumann was fourth and Gundaker fifth. The UMP Modifieds didn?t disappoint the fans either, Rusty Griffaw and Scott Weber battled side-by-side for most of the twenty-lap feature event. Weber held Griffaw off at the line to pick up the victory. Tom Ratajczyk, Jeff LeBaube and Brian Wolfmeier completed the top five. Troy Naeger out battled a huge field of forty Sportsman cars to pick up his fourth win of the season. He had to hold off a late race charge by Brian Worley. Worley came up just short at the end and settled for second. Dennis Wernle came home third, points leader Paul Belken fourth and Scott Stuppy was fifth.
