PEVELY, MO (May 19, 2001) Kevin Gundaker of St. Charles, MO used the bottom of the racetrack to move up from his fifth starting spot to take over second place on the first lap. Just four laps later he moved past early leader Billy Faust to take the lead. Then on lap nine, while running second, Billy Faust jumped the cushion in turn three and hit the wall. The third and fourth place cars of Ed Dixon and Steve Shive couldn?t avoid Faust, severely damaging all three cars. All three drivers were uninjured but were done for the night. The event was marred by five more cautions before Kevin Gundaker finally took the checkered flag to pick up his fourth win of the season at I-55 Raceway and was able to retake the lead in the points in the UMP Late Model class. Tim Ratajczyk got his best finish of the season by coming home second. Danny Haynes came all the way from his 25th starting spot to finish third. John Hobson and Mark Oller rounded out the top five. Scott Weber picked up his second UMP Modified feature win of the season. Weber started on the front row and led all 20 laps. Brent Mullins moved up to challenge Weber for the lead late in the race, but had to settle for second. Tom Ratajczyk passed five cars on the final three laps to take third. Rich Whaley was fourth and Brian Wolfmeier fifth. Paul Belken, Jr. continues to dominate the AARA Sportsman division. Belken?s victory gives him five wins in only six races this season. Troy Naeger had another strong run and finish second. Mark Blanke was third, Matt Hancock fourth and Doug Wood completed the top five. Wednesday, June 6th promises to be spectacular at I-55 Raceway, NASCAR stars Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace will all be on hand signing autographs.
