PEVELY, MO (May 12, 2001) A packed house was on hand to watch Ken Schrader compete in the UMP Late Model division. They had to wait a while as Schrader was racing his NASCAR Craftsman Truck at Darlington, SC and while running third, that race was rain delayed. Schrader was able to finish the truck race in second place, then jump on a flight and get to I-55 Raceway in time for the feature event. Schrader had to start 24th in the UMP Late Model feature and battled his way through traffic to a seventh place finish. Meanwhile, there was a five-car battle up front and it appeared the race was going to be between Mark Oller and Billy Faust. Then Kevin Gundaker made it three-wide as he went under Oller into turn one on the final lap. Gundaker moved past Oller and Faust down the backstretch and held on for the win. Oller came across second, Ed Dixon then moved past Faust for third. Faust was fourth and Don Klein came home fifth. Gundaker, Ken Rumble and Oller won the heats and Gundaker also won the dash. Jeff Leka, who has been out of racing for two months recovering from a broken leg, showed everyone that he hasn't lost a step. Leka held off reigning track champion Scott Weber for the victory in the UMP Modified division. Ray Wagner finished third while Dean Hoffman and Rusty Griffaw completed the top five. Leka, Wagner, Hoffman and Weber won the heats and Weber won the dash. Paul Belken, Jr. continued his hot streak in the AARA Sportsman class. Belken picked up his fourth victory in five tries. Troy Naeger, the only other driver with a victory in 2001 finished second. Scott Stuppy was third, Mark Blanke fourth and Brian Worley fifth. Belken, Kenny Kennedy, Doug Wood, and Stuppy won the heats. Belken also won the dash.
