Gansmann Becomes 5th Late Model Winner at I-55 Seets Tunes up For Bristol with Modified Sweep Pevely, Mo. (May 20) -- Mark Gansmann edged Ed Dixon by inches Saturday to win his first UMP Late Model feature of the season at I-55 Raceway. Gansmann passed Steve Shive on the eleventh lap of the feature to take the lead. Dixon took the second spot from Shive on the 15th lap and slowly reeled in Gansmann. Dixon was on the leader's back bumper on lap 19 when he jumped the cushion and had to lift the gas pedal. He dropped a few car lengths back, but caught Gansmann again on the 24th lap. Heading into the final turn, Dixon dove low while Gansmann rode the cushion. The two hit the finish line side by side, and coasted around the track to see whowould be handed the checkered flag. Gansmann was ruled the winner, making him the fifth driver to win a late model feature in the first seven nights of action at I-55 Raceway this season. Tim Ratajczyk won his late model heat and the dash. Brian Wolfmeier won heats in both the late models and modifieds. John Seets Sr., who has qualified for the big UMP Modified race at Bristol Motor Speedway on June 3-4, signed autographs before the races Saturday, then went out and swept his heat, dash and feature. He held off points leader Scott Weber to win a feature that pushed the crowd to its feet in the closing laps. Dean Hoffman also was a modified heat winner, and Matt Simpson won the semi-feature. Paul Belken Jr., points leader in the sportsman class, won his heat and dash but blew an engine while trying to pass team mate Mark Blanke for the lead on the eighth lap of the feature. Blanke then managed to stay in front of defending champion Scott Stuppy to earn his second victory of 2000. Brian Worley was third. Doug Wood and Bob Schmidt won the other sportsman heats. Nick Werner Jr. qualified for the main event by winning the semi. Don Eaton and Dwight Bradley won the feature for two-man cruiser cars. The heat had gone to Paul Bauman and Gary Klein.
