Ed Dixon Breaks Through for First Victory of 2000 - Scott Weber and Paul Belken Jr. Also Notch Wins Pevely, Mo. (April 22) -- It took three tries for defending champion Ed Dixon to win his first UMP Late Model feature at I-55 Raceway in the year 2000. Dixon passed Jim Durbin on lap seven of the 25-lap feature to take the lead Saturday night. Mark Oller, winner of the season's first two late model features, moved into second on the 16th lap but couldn't pass Dixon this week. John Hobson was third and Durbin ended up fourth. The action was close and tight throughout the race, with several pileups and many banging incidents. Pat Ryan finished the feature with the plastic nose piece from Clay Bauman's car hanging from his rear bumper. Dixon also won his heat and dash. Steve Shive won the other late model heat. The UMP Modified feature belonged to Scott Weber, who led all 20 laps and was never seriously challenged. Dean Hoffman and Ray Walsh were second and third. Weber also won the modified dash. Walsh, Hoffman and Jeff LeBaube won the heats. Paul Belken Jr., the 1998 track champion in the sportsman class, won his first feature of the season. Doug Wood was second and Brian Worley, who led the first three laps, was third. Wood won his heat and the sportsman dash. Jim Troutman, Dennis Wernle and Matt Hancock were the heat winners, and Mark Blanke won the semi feature. Billy Klein and Phil Grifford won the heat and feature for the two-man cruiser cars. There were 102 race cars in attendance Saturday, pushing the track over the century mark for the third time in three nights this season.
