Korte, Bittle, Nations & Fisher take wins at I-55 Raceway!

PHOTOS FROM I-55 RACEWAY Pevely, MO (August 18, 2007) Randy Korte of Highland, IL claimed the UMP DIRTcar Late Model main event at I-55 Raceway in his debut outing of the new paint scheme honoring his son's graduation from U.S. Army Basic Training. Korte took the lead on lap four from Belleville, IL's Jeff Johns. Johns took the lead using his outside front row starting position, but Korte, who started on the pole, soon moved past Johns and led the final twenty-one laps enroute to the victory. The first caution flew on lap eleven for Paul Roider's spin in turn two. Then, just three laps later, Dewayne Kiefer made contact with Danny Haynes as the two battled for the fourth spot, sending Kiefer's car spinning into the inside wall going into turn one. The final caution flew a couple of laps later as Jeff Beyers jumped the cushion in turn three and slammed the outside wall. Korte remained strong after each restart and held Johns at bay to earn the victory. Bryan Collins took third and padded his point lead and appears to be on his way to winning his second straight UMP DIRTcar Late Model point title at I-55 Raceway. Danny Haynes was fourth and Mark Voigt completed the top five. The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds once again gave the fans a thrilling finish. Scott Weber led the first ten laps of the main event, but Bobby Bittle began working Weber over and as the two raced side by side for a couple of laps, the caution flew. Bittle was scored as the leader on the lap ten restart. Weber tried to mount a challenge back on Bittle, but slipped allowing Mike Harrison to get past for the second spot. Harrison tried to work on Bittle for the lead, but fell short at the end. This was Bittle's second straight UMP DIRTcar Modified win at I-55 Raceway and he increased his point lead over Ray Walsh to sixty-eight points. Mike Harrison, Scott Weber, Ray Walsh and Paul Bauman completed the top five. Kent Nations grabbed a hard earned victory in the UMP DIRTcar Sportsman division. A three-way battle for the top spot raged for all fifteen laps of the main event with Nations battling Troy Medley and Jimmy Cummins. Medley and Cummins battled hard for second, racing side by side on many occassions throughout the event, with each taking turns at pressuring Nations for the top spot. In the end, Medley took second with Cummins crossing the line in third. Ronnie Bader took the fourth spot with Troy Naeger rounding out the top five. Nations win moved him into the second spot in the points chase just two points ahead of Medley and forty-six points behind the leader Troy Naeger. Chris Fisher continues to dominate the UMP DIRTcar Pro 4 Stock division as he won his ninth feature of the season. Fisher moved past early leader Gary Price in lapped traffic and never looked back. Homer Mooney took third with Conrad Miner fourth and Brandon Hedgecoth fifth.
