Dixon Delivers 500 at I-55! PEVELY, MO (July 28, 2001) Ed Dixon of Washington, MO reached a huge milestone in the UMP Late Model class by winning his 500th career feature. Dixon held off attempts by three different drivers that tried to take the win away. Early in the race, Chuck Baird battled side-by-side with Dixon, and then it was Danny Maguire’s turn. Maguire pulled along side Dixon several times before he spun coming out of turn four with nine laps remaining. That gave Tim Ratajczyk the opportunity to take the lead away, but Dixon held him off for the final nine laps and picked up the victory. Ratajczyk held off Kevin Gundaker for second. Dave Jumper and Billy Faust rounded out the top five. Dixon’s 500th feature win came on the fifteen-year anniversary of Don Klein’s 500th feature win. Oller Out Duels Tough Field at I-55! PEVELY, MO (July 21, 2001) The UMP Late Models provided another great night of action at I-55 Raceway. Danny Haynes and Mark Oller started on the front row of a stellar field of late models. Oller, of Highland, IL, jumped out to the early lead, but the race was halted on the second lap when Danny Maguire and Bill Masters made contact on the front straight. Maguire got into the wall and then went upside down. Maguire was able to walk away uninjured. The race resumed with Oller leading the way until Kevin Gundaker made the pass for the lead on the eighth lap. Gundaker, Oller and Haynes battled two and three wide for the lead for several laps. Haynes took the lead on lap fifteen and appeared to be on his way to victory, but Oller made the pass for the lead …

PEVELY, MO (July 14, 2001) A packed house greeted the Pennzoil World of Outlaws on their second visit this season to I-55 Raceway. Then the Outlaws treated the fans to a great race and a thrilling finish. Joey Saldana of Brownsburg, IN and Steve Kinser of Bloomington, IN started on the front row of the A-Main. Kinser jumped out to the early lead. On lap twelve, Saldana took the lead away from Kinser by taking advantage of lapped traffic. Kinser was able to wrestle the lead back from Saldana on lap twenty-one as they battled through more lapped traffic. Saldana’s luck ran out on the thirty-third lap, as flat tire would end his hope for victory. That allowed Stevie Smith of New Oxford, PA to move into second place. Smith stayed right on Kinser’s bumper until the last lap, when Smith dove under Kinser entering turn 3, forcing Kinser up …
