PEVELY, MO (April 21, 2001) Defending UMP National Late Model and I-55 Raceway track champion Ed Dixon returned to his winning ways by sweeping the evening's events. It didn't come easy, in his qualifying heat, fourteen year old Justin Allgaier got the jump on Dixon and led the first seven laps of the heat. On the final lap, Dixon got underneath Allgaier coming out of turn four and just beat him across the finish line. Chuck Baird and Jason Frankel won the other qualifying heats. Dixon won the dash. Dixon jumped out to an early lead in feature event, but Tim Ratajczyk used the low side to take the lead on lap two. Ratajczyk held the lead for the next four laps, but Dixon came back strong on the high side and regained the lead on lap six. Dixon and Ratajczyk pulled away from the rest of the field and …

April 14, 2001 Results

PEVELY, MO (April 14, 2001) Kevin Gundaker of St. Charles, MO continued his strong performance at I-55 Raceway by winning his second straight UMP Late Model feature. A strong field of competitors including NASCAR Winston Cup driver Kenny Schrader were on hand and made it difficult for Gundaker to claim the back-to-back victories. Gundaker started on the front role pole of the feature by virtue of winning his heat race and the dash. Gundaker used his front row starting position to jump out front at the start and had to hold off a hard charging Ed Dixon early on. Tim Ratajczyk moved up to battle Dixon for second allowing Gundaker to stretch out his lead. Meanwhile, Kenny Schrader and Mark Oller battled for fourth position for the entire feature. Randy Hannagan Picks Up First Victory Dean Hoffman claims UMP Modified Main Event PEVELY, MO (March 24, 2001) The Pennzoil World Of Outlaws roared into town to open the 2001 season at I-55 Raceway. The capacity crowd endured bone-chilling temperatures in the lower 20’s and witnessed some spectacular racing. Forty-six Outlaw Sprinters were on hand to try and claim the $10,000 for winning the 40 lap main event. Randy Hannagan got the jump out of turn four on the start with Jason Meyers and Stevie Smith right behind him. Hannagan continued to lead until Stevie Smith was able to pass him in heavy lapped traffic on lap thirteen. Smith appeared to be on his way to victory, but his right rear tire went flat with just five laps remaining. Schlieper claims Pepsi Nationals Title at I-55 (Pevely, MO – Sep 16, 2000) Day two of the 18th Annual I-55 Pepsi Nationals attracted a huge field of cars and a capacity crowd. One hundred forty six cars filled the pit area in the three divisions. The $10,000 to win UMP Late Model feature brought 43 late models into the pit area, including some of the top late model drivers from around the country. Don O'Neal and Kevin Weaver had starting spots guaranteed in the dash after finishing first and second the previous night. The other 41 late models had to qualify. The top four qualifiers were locked in the dash along with the track high point driver and the UMP National highest point driver. Randy Korte set fast time followed by Mullvain, Schlieper and Birkhofer. Ed Dixon and Mike Hammerle were added to the dash based on their point totals. …

O'Neal Red Hot on opening night of the I-55 Nationals (Pevely, MO – 15 Sep 00) Don O'Neal came out smoking on the first night of the I-55 Raceway Pepsi Nationals. O'Neal started the night by qualify 5th fastest which gave him a front row starting spot in the dash. O'Neal jumped out front in the dash and led the entire event and earned a front row starting position in the 25 laps feature. O'Neal jumped out in front of Billy Moyer on the first lap of the feature and never looked back. O'Neal led all 25 laps en route to the victory. Meanwhile, Moyer began to fade and Kevin Weaver moved into the runner up position. Randy Korte moved up through the field and finished third. Dixon Runs His Doors Off — Literally Shereck and Weber Win Modified and Sportsman Features PEVELY, MO. (September 9) — Ed Dixon needed to run the doors off his late model to hold off Mark Oller and Joe Ross Jr. for a feature victory Saturday night. After the race, the newly-crowned 2000 track champion cut the doors off his car and gave them to fans who submitted the highest bids — $200 per side — in a charity memorabilia auction. Oller and Ross hounded Dixon throughout the feature. Coming out of the second turn on lap 19, the three briefly ran side-by-side, but Dixon managed to lead all 25 laps from his front-row starting position. Dixon earlier won his heat and the dash. Shive Shines at I-55 on Season Championship Night (Pevely, MO – Sep 2, 2000) Steve Shive started on the front row in the UMP Late Model feature event and jumped out front and led all twenty five laps to win his first feature event of the season at I-55 Raceway. Jason Frankel came home second in the caution free event. Jim Durbin, Mark Oller and Dave Jumper rounded out the top five. Veteran racer Don Klein won the hard charger award for his eighth place finish, moving up from his seventeenth starting position. Ed Dixon's tenth place finish secured him the season points championship in the UMP Late Model Division. Rusty Griffaw won his first ever UMP Modified feature. Oller wins 'Nationals' sneak preview at I-55 by Richard Stoff PEVELY, MO. (August 26, 2000) — Mark Oller pulled alongside Donnie Tudor as the two raced under the white flag and edged ahead to win Saturday's UMP Late Model feature in a sneak preview of the upcoming I-55 Pepsi Nationals. With rainouts at nearby Highland and Mt. Vernon speedways in Illinois, I-55 ended up with a number of drivers who normally race at those tracks. As a result, the 125-car field at Pevely included 11 of the top 20 drivers in the national UMP Late Model points standings. The 18th annual I-55 Pepsi Nationals, which annually attracts many of the top drivers in the Midwest, will be held Sept. 15-16. Oller was the fifth leader in the 25-lap late model final. Dixon Continues Dominance (Pevely, MO – Aug 19, 2000) Ed Dixon won his third consecutive feature and appears to be on his way to another championship in the UMP Late Model Division. Dixon started on the front row pole and led all twenty-five laps en route to victory and completed the sweep. Tim Ratajczyk challenged Dixon for the lead after a restart late in the race but had to settle for second. Mark Gansmann, Dave Jumper and Jason Frankel completed the top five. Tim Ratajczyk won the other heat race. In the UMP Modified Division, Jim Shereck's biggest competition came from his own backup car. Kevin Gundaker, who was driving Shereck's backup car, tried lap after lap to wrestle the lead from Shereck. However, Shereck held on for the win, with Gundaker finishing second.
