Pevely, MO (September 6, 2008) I-55 Raceway wrapped up their 2008 points chase and crowned four Champions for the 2008 racing season. Three huge special events remain on the schedule this year for I-55 Raceway beginning this coming weekend with the 26th Annual Pepsi Nationals which feature the World of Outlaw Late Model Series.
Billy Faust secured the UMP Late Model Championship by picking up his sixth win of 2008 at I-55 Raceway. Faust dominated the main event as he led all twenty-five laps and put all but the top nine finishers down at least one lap. Mark Voigt would finish in the second spot after winning the qualifying dash earlier and starting on the pole for the main event. Matt Weidner had his best finish ever at I-55 Raceway as he brought home a third place finish. Mike Schulte would finish in the fourth spot with Michael Kloos coming from the tenth starting spot to round out the top five.
Ray Walsh claimed the 2008 Championship in the UMP Modified division, but it was Brent Mullins taking an exciting victory over Walsh. Walsh jumped out to the early lead, but Mullins, who was running back in the fourth spot early on, jumped to the high side and went past everyone and took the lead from Walsh on lap nine. Walsh would move up to the same line Mullins was running and two kept the fans on the edge of their seats as they battled for the lead. A caution with just three laps remaining set the stage for a classic battle as the two raced side-by-side most of those final three laps with Mullins edging Walsh at the line for the win. Kenny Rumble would take the third spot with Tim Hancock finishing fourth and Tommie Seets, Jr. fifth.
Jeff Herzog was crowned the 2008 Champion in the UMP/AARA Sportsman division. Herzog would lead most of the feature event before surrendering the lead late in the race to Troy Medley. Medley used the same line as Mullins did in the modified division, the very top, to move to the front. Herzog would finish in the second spot to secure the 2008 Championship. Troy Naeger would finish third in the feature with Jimmy Cummins taking fourth and Danny Ems fifth.
Homer Mooney took the victory in the UMP/AARA Pro 4 Stock division and also took home the 2008 Championship. Jacob Buechting would finish second with Gary Range taking third. Chris Fisher would finish in the fourth position with Chuck Johnson completing the top five.
