Danny Lasoski got the best of Kraig Kinser and Joey Saldana in an action-packed World of Outlaws 40 lap A-feature Saturday night at I-55 Raceway. Lasoski used a low side move on lap 37 to get his sixth win of the season, and his first World of Outlaws victory at I-55.
Pole-sitter Joey Saldana took the lead at the drop of the green flag, with outside front row starter Mark Kinser following in second, and Donny Schatz passing Steve Kinser for third. Fifth-starting Kraig Kinser began moving forward on lap 3, using the bottom of the speedway to pass his father Steve for fourth, then getting by Schatz for third and overtaking Mark Kinser for second by lap 5.

Saldana caught up to slower traffic a lap later, but was able to maintain a 10 carlength advantage, while both Schatz and Steve Kinser got by Mark Kinser, and eighth-starting Danny Lasoski mounted a charge that took him by Mark, Steve, and Donny by lap 12.

A lap 14 caution for Jason Keith, who stopped on the backstretch, tightened the field, but Saldana opened up a 15 carlength lead by the time he drove into traffic again on lap 18. Steve Kinser and Schatz exchanged fourth place several times before the caution waved again for Jerrod Hull on lap 28.

On the restart, Kraig Kinser managed to stay on SaldanaÂ’s back bumper, and the World of Outlaws leading rookie took the lead on lap 30, with Lasoski taking second from Saldana on lap 31. Saldana was able to reclaim the runner-up spot one lap later. Kinser barely avoided a turn 3 accident involving Danny Wood and Brian Paulus on lap 33, scraping the wall with his Delco-Remy Maxim as he took evasive action.

Lasoski drove under Saldana for second on lap 35, and reeled in Kinser before getting the lead on lap 37.

“Little (Kraig) Kinser was doing an awesome job—he was actually running where I wanted to be,” Lasoski said. “I got beside him there and he saw me and moved back to the top , so I had to go back to work on the bottom.”

As Lasoski approached the white flag, Jason Meyers (eighth at the time) hit the wall in turn 2. The resulting caution set up a two lap dash to the checkerd, but Lasoski was able to pull away to a 10 carlength victory.

“It was a lot of fun tonight, and it’s always great to come here and take some of (track owners) Ray Marler and Ken Schrader’s money,” said “The Dude” from victory lane. “This JD Byrider, Home Depot car was awesome tonight, and I can’t say enough about Jerry Russell’s Eagle Chassis, and Paul Kistler engines, as well as Hoosier tires. This is the first time in a while that we’ve had a top and a bottom groove here, and all the credit goes to Ray Marler and his staff for taking the time to prepare the track so that we can put on a good show. I just want to thank everyone for coming out and having the patience while Ray and his guys got the track right.”

LasoskiÂ’s win allowed him to close to within 66 points of Steve Kinser in the OutlawÂ’s season point standings.

Donny Schatz’s sixth place finish vaulted him back to third in the points, while Daryn Pittman picked up his ninth top five result and “First Lady” Erin Crocker notched her fifth top ten of the season.

Pevely, MO (August 7, 2004) Bobby Bittle increased his point lead in the U.M.P. (United Midwestern Promoters) Modified division at I-55 Raceway as he swept the night's action in that division. Eric Mabery lead the first half of the main event as he took the lead on the opening lap. Mabery fought off the challenge of Bittle and Tom Ratajczyk early on. Bittle worked his way around Mabery and went on to claim the win. Mabery took home second with Ratajczyk taking third. Brent Mullins took the fourth position and Doug Wood completed the top five.

A scary crash happened at about the half way mark of the twenty lap event when Clint Eckenrodt flipped several times in turn two. The crash happened when Eckenrodt's left front tire climb up and over the right rear of Matt Goulden's car. Dennis Richards also made hard contact with the wall as he had to make an evasive manuever to avoid the flipping car of Eckenrodt. Both drivers were uninjured.
