Pevely, MO (April 19, 2003) NASCAR star Ken Schrader made his first trip to I-55 Raceway with his U.M.P. Late Model this season and made it one to remember. Schrader, who is co-owner of I-55 Raceway, put on a dominating performance. Schrader started eighth in his heat race and took the lead with just two laps remaining and went on to victory. Schrader started on the pole for the dash and led the entire distance.

Ken Schrader

Twenty-three U.M.P. Late Models took the green flag in the feature event, with Schrader setting the pace. Schrader immediately jumped out front and moved to the high side. Tim Ratajczyk settled into second place using the low side. Kevin Gundaker soon moved past Ratajczyk around the top and began to chase down Schrader, while Mark Oller pressured Ratajczyk on the low side. Ed Dixon made a fast charge to the top five from his tenth place starting position, but soon the caution was waving for Dixon who broke a drive shaft yoke and pulled to a stop in turn four. On the restart, Schrader and Gundaker continued around the high side and Oller moved past Rajaczyk on the low side and began to chase down Gundaker. Schrader went on to victory by a half straight-away distance over Oller who edged out Gundaker for the second spot. Gundaker was third, Ratajczyk fourth and Dean Hoffman completed the top five.

Scott Weber continues to be the dominant force in the U.M.P. Modified division as he swept the night's events. Ray Walsh was able to apply pressure to Weber late in the feature event, but Walsh soon found himself battling to hold on to second place. Walsh lost that battle as Rusty Griffaw edged him by a half-car length at the checkered flag. Rich Whaley came home fourth and Eric Mabery fifth.

Some new faces found themselves running up front in the AARA Sportsman division. Todd McGraw picked up the win in dominating fashion as he swept the night's events as well. Bob Prince led a four car battle for second, with Ron Imm, Jr. taking third. Eric Rudd in his first season in the Sportsman division was fourth and Scott Stuppy was fifth.

Stan Cain completed the night of sweeps as he swept in the Wannabee division.
