Durbin, Grotz & Belken claim victories at I-55! Pevely, MO (July 27, 2002) Jim Durbin drove to his first UMP Late Model win of 2002 at I-55 Raceway. Dave Jumper battled Durbin early on for the lead, but Durbin soon found the fast line by using the top and pulled away to win by full straight-away. Jumper had to hold off the current track points leader Tim Ratajczyk for second. Danny Haynes came home fourth and Kyle Steffens fifth. The UMP Modified feature provided tonight's fireworks. Ray Wagner jumped out front early, but Steve Grotz moved past Wagner on the high side on the fifth lap. From there, the battle was on as six and sometimes seven cars battled for the lead. Scott Weber was able to wrestle the lead from Grotz on lap twelve but before he could lead a lap, he found the turn four wall. Grotz reassumed …

Dixon, Weber & Belken take Mid-Season Championships at I-55! Pevely, MO (July 20, 2002) Ed Dixon led all twenty-five laps on the UMP Late Model main event to claim the mid-season championship. Dixon jumped out to the early lead from his front row starting spot and only faced a couple of challenge early on in the event. Jim Durbin challenged Dixon early on for the lead, but Dixon was able to get away until an early caution. On the restart, Danny Haynes mounted a challenge for the lead using the low side, but again Dixon was able to open up a small lead. During the middle of the race, Justin Allgaier made his move toward the front, making it to third place before his engine let go down the backstretch, littering the track with connecting rods and other engine parts. Pittman & English take victories at I-55! By Richard Day PEVELY, MO (July 13) – Before winning "A" Features at Perris Auto Speedway and Hagerstown Speedway this season, one of Daryn Pittman's fondest Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series memories was his runner-up run at I-55 Raceway on July 24, 1999. The defending World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion improved on that Saturday, driving the #21 Hop & Sac J&J past pole-sitter Blake Feese early in the second lap on his way to winning the "A" Feature at I-55 Raceway. "We knew it was just a matter of time before the track took rubber again, so we had to be aggressive and get the lead early," said Pittman, whose right rear tire was flat in victory lane. Dixon, Weber and Belken claim victories at I-55! Pevely, MO (July 6, 2002) Washington, MO's Ed Dixon earned his fifth win of 2002 at I-55 Raceway by beating an impressive field of UMP Late Models. It wasn't easy as Jim Durbin took the early lead by using the cushion around the top of the track. Dixon fell in line directly behind Durbin and stayed glued to Durbin's back bumper. As those two battled for the lead, Terry English, Tim Ratajczyk and Mark Oller found themselves together battling for third. Finally on lap six, Dixon made a move under Durbin and took the lead. The caution flag flew on the next lap for the spin of Billy Laycock, allowing the leaders to get bunched up again on the restart. English found his way around Durbin just two laps later and began to chase down Dixon. Dixon continued to use the cushion …

Babb claims UMP Summer Nationals Title! Weber, Bauman also take victories! Pevely, MO (June 29, 2002) A packed house filled the grandstands in anticipation of the seventh annual Bud UMP Summer Nationals at I-55 Raceway. Thirty-six UMP Late Models signed in to compete for the $10,000 top prize. The action kicked off with Billy Moyer setting fast time in qualifying with a time of 13.587 seconds around the high-banked one-third mile oval. Bob Pierce took off from his front row starting spot in the dash and ran off with the win. Shannon Babb made a late race charge for the lead but had to settle for second. Defending track champion Ed Dixon took third, with Don O¬íNeal fourth and Billy Moyer fifth. Defending UMP Late Model National Champion Rodney Melvin claimed the first heat race over NASCAR veteran Kenny Schrader, Matt Taylor was third, Justin Allgaier fourth and Steve Shive …

Kruckeberg, Hoffman & Belken roll to victory! Pevely, MO (June 22, 2002) Butch Kruckeberg had never won a UMP Late Model feature at I-55 Raceway until tonight and he possibly drove his best race ever to take the win. Ed Dixon was looking to push his winning streak to four straight after dominating his heat and the dash. Dixon jumped out to the early lead in the feature and was able to open up a four car length lead. But Kruckeberg found a fast line around the 1/3 mile oval right in the middle of the track. On lap six he pulled right up on the back bumper of Dixon and began to pressure him for the lead. Dixon stayed on the very bottom and Kruckeberg moved past Dixon on the ninth lap using the middle groove. Dixon then moved to the top to find a faster line, but there …

Dixon, Whaley & Belken roll to victory! Pevely, MO (June 15, 2002) Washington, MO's Ed Dixon put on a dominating performance in the UMP Late Model division. Dixon took off from his front row starting spot and never looked back. Mark Oller was able to keep the pressure on Dixon during the early laps of the race, but on lap twelve, Tom Fitzgerald spun in front of the leaders and collected Oller, eliminating both cars from the event. Tim Ratajczyk took over second spot but was never able to challenge Dixon for the lead. Jason Frankel moved up late in the race to battle Ratajczyk for second, but couldn't get the position away from Ratajczyk. Mark Miner, a former Georgia late model driver, drove Ken Schrader's #99 Federated Auto Parts car to a fourth place finish. It was Miner's first time in over three years to race a late model. …

Danny Smith & Ed Dixon take Open Wheel Wednesday Honors! Pevely, MO (June 12, 2002) Severe thunderstorms rolled through I-55 Raceway on Monday and Tuesday and were forecast for Wednesday, putting a big question mark on whether the Open Wheel Wednesday show would even be run. But the only thunder on Wednesday at I-55 Raceway was provided by the racecars on the track. The action on the track kept the fans on their feet. Four different drivers swapped the lead nine times in the twenty-five lap sprint car feature. Bobby Hawks jumped out to the early lead and lead until the caution came out on lap ten. On the restart, Joey Montgomery, Tommy Worley and Danny Smith moved up and challenged for the lead. Hawks began to fade, and Montgomery and Smith swapped the lead several times in the closing laps with Worley close behind. Then on lap twenty-two, Montgomery …

Ratajczyk Roars to Victory at I-55! Pevely, MO (June 8, 2002) A near perfect evening for racing brought out a huge crowd and a lot of cars to I-55 Raceway. One hundred twenty one cars came through the gates to challenge the high banks including the current UMP National Late Model Point leader Terry English. Current track point leader Tim Ratajczyk kicked things off in the UMP Late Model division by besting Mark Oller and Dave Jumper in the first heat. In the second heat, Terry English worked his way from a last row starting spot to claim the win. Billy Faust was second and Don Klein third. In the third heat, Jim Durbin pulled away and picked up the win over Mark Burgtorf and Clay Baumann. Terry English jumped out front and handily won the dash over Jim Durbin and Tim Ratajczyk. Dixon Dominates at I-55! Pevely, MO (June 1, 2002)Scorching temperatures invaded I-55 Raceway today as the thermometer pushed into the mid 90s. The action on the track was just as hot between the twenty-five UMP Late Models that signed in the gate. Ed Dixon started off the night just like he finished last week, by running away with the first qualifying heat. Dave Jumper and Mark Oller completed the top three. Tim Ratajczyk cruised to victory in the second heat over Jason Frankel and Brian Wolfmeier. The third heat saw Danny Haynes hold off the outstanding youngster Justin Allgaier. Third went to John Bohn. Dixon also went on to win the dash by besting Haynes and Ratajczyk. Dixon continued his hot streak in the feature.
