Moyer Dominates I-55 Summer Nationals! PEVELY, MO (June 30, 2001) Billy Moyer picked up his fourth UMP Summer Nationals win in 2001 by dominating the competition at I-55 Raceway. Moyer and Ed Dixon started on the front row and Dixon jumped out to the early lead. Dixon led until lap seven, and then Moyer used the high side of the track to drive past Dixon. Moyer pulled away and opened up large lead. Bill Frye worked his way through traffic from his seventh starting position and moved into second. Frye was unable to make a serious challenge to Moyer and settled for a second place finish. The biggest battle on the racetrack was for third position. Shannon Babb, Brian Birkhofer, Ed Dixon and Don O’Neal battled two and three wide through lapped traffic. Shannon Babb won the battle for third. June 23, 2001 Results

PEVELY, MO (June 23, 2001) In the UMP Late Model Division, Kevin Gundaker jumped out to the early lead from the pole position, but his night came to an end on lap four when he experienced mechanical problems. That handed the lead over to Mark Gansmann who led the next eleven laps. Tim Ratajczyk worked his way through heavy traffic from his eleventh place starting position and wrestled the lead away from Gansmann on the sixteenth circuit and went on to take the win. It was Ratajczyk’s second win this season at I-55 Raceway. Gansmann took second and point leader Mark Oller came home third. Jason Frankel recovered from his spin on lap three and came back to finish fourth. Sixty-three year old Don Klein had his best showing of the season and finished fifth. Billy Faust, Frankel and Gansmann won the heat races and Gundaker won the dash. On …

June 16, 2001 Results

Dixon, Hoffman & Belken win at I-55! PEVELY, MO (June 16, 2001) Defending UMP Late Model National Champion Ed Dixon used the high side of the track to move from his fourth place starting spot into the lead on the very first lap. Kevin Gundaker and Tim Ratajczyk battled lap after lap for second place, with Gundaker claiming second by a nose. The race was slowed on lap seven when Rick Bayer hit the front straight wall and again on lap eight when there was an eight car crash on the front stretch. After each restart, Dixon was able to hold onto the lead while Gundaker and Ratajczyk battled for second. Mark Oller was able to work his way through traffic and finish fourth. Billy Faust came home fifth. This was Dixon’s 497th career feature win. Fifteen-year-old Justin Allgaeir won his heat race and the dash. Other heat winners were …

June 6, 2001 Results

Gundaker and Smith grab wins; Earnhardt, Schrader and Wallace highlight evening! PEVELY, MO (June 6, 2001) It was a special night at I-55 Raceway, three NASCAR stars were on hand to sign autographs and a full field of race cars provided some great racing. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace signed autographs for two hours before the races started, then Schrader and Wallace buckled into UMP Late Models and raced with some of the top late model drivers in the Midwest. A huge crowd filled the grandstands and witnessed some excellent racing. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. also commented that he will be back at I-55 Raceway next year and that he would race a late model. Thirty-six UMP Late Models signed in to race. Kevin Gundaker took the lead from Matt Taylor on lap three, and then had to hold off defending UMP Late Model National Champion Ed Dixon …

June 2, 2001 Results

Ratajczyk racks up first win at I-55! PEVELY, MO (June 2, 2001) Tim Ratajczyk held off challenges from five different drivers to pick up his first victory of the season in the UMP Late Model division. Ed Dixon, Kevin Gundaker and Ratajczyk battled two and three wide in the first few laps for the lead, when Dixon jumped the cushion and slapped the wall bringing out the first caution on lap three. On the restart, Gundaker and Ratajczyk continued their battle for the next seven laps, but Gundaker had a right rear tire go flat. That allowed Mark Oller and Steve Shive to move up and challenge Ratajczyk for the lead. Shive’s bad luck continued, as he had mechanical problems a few laps later. Billy Faust also moved up to challenge Ratajczyk and suffered mechanical problems. Ratajczyk was able to hold off Oller and pick up the victory. Jason Frankel, …

May 26, 2001 Results

Jumper leaps into victory lane! Scott Weber rockets into the modified winner circle! PEVELY, MO (May 26, 2001) Dave Jumper started on the front row pole and jumped out front and led all 25 laps to grab the victory in the UMP Late Model feature. It was Jumper's first ever win in a late model and he became the fourth different winner this season in the UMP Late Model division at I-55 Raceway. Mark Oller worked his way up through traffic early and battled briefly with Jumper but had to settle for second. Tim Ratajczyk was third and Jason Frankel was first to the line in a four-car battle for fourth. Matt Taylor completed the top five. Scott Weber rocketed his way around the top of the track and claimed his second straight UMP Modified feature win. Weber held off an early challenge from Rich Whaley but pulled away in …

May 19, 2001 Results

PEVELY, MO (May 19, 2001) Kevin Gundaker of St. Charles, MO used the bottom of the racetrack to move up from his fifth starting spot to take over second place on the first lap. Just four laps later he moved past early leader Billy Faust to take the lead. Then on lap nine, while running second, Billy Faust jumped the cushion in turn three and hit the wall. The third and fourth place cars of Ed Dixon and Steve Shive couldn’t avoid Faust, severely damaging all three cars. All three drivers were uninjured but were done for the night. The event was marred by five more cautions before Kevin Gundaker finally took the checkered flag to pick up his fourth win of the season at I-55 Raceway and was able to retake the lead in the points in the UMP Late Model class. May 12, 2001 Results

PEVELY, MO (May 12, 2001) A packed house was on hand to watch Ken Schrader compete in the UMP Late Model division. They had to wait a while as Schrader was racing his NASCAR Craftsman Truck at Darlington, SC and while running third, that race was rain delayed. Schrader was able to finish the truck race in second place, then jump on a flight and get to I-55 Raceway in time for the feature event. Schrader had to start 24th in the UMP Late Model feature and battled his way through traffic to a seventh place finish. Meanwhile, there was a five-car battle up front and it appeared the race was going to be between Mark Oller and Billy Faust. Then Kevin Gundaker made it three-wide as he went under Oller into turn one on the final lap. Gundaker moved past Oller and Faust down the backstretch and held on …

April 28, 2001 Results

PEVELY, MO (April 28, 2001) It looked as if Ed Dixon was going to pick up his 492nd career feature win, instead it was Danny Haynes picking up his first career UMP Late Model feature win. Haynes worked his way through traffic and took over second place with just seven laps to go. Haynes then set his sights on Dixon who had a full straight away lead. Haynes reeled him in and made the pass with just two laps to go. Haynes, who’s car began smoking badly with just a few laps to go, said in victory lane that the car lost all oil pressure on the final lap. Ed Dixon settled for second with Mark Oller, Jason Frankel and Kevin Gundaker rounding out the top five. Dave Jumper, Chuck Baird and Oller won the heats and Jumper also won the dash. April 21, 2001 Results

PEVELY, MO (April 21, 2001) Defending UMP National Late Model and I-55 Raceway track champion Ed Dixon returned to his winning ways by sweeping the evening's events. It didn't come easy, in his qualifying heat, fourteen year old Justin Allgaier got the jump on Dixon and led the first seven laps of the heat. On the final lap, Dixon got underneath Allgaier coming out of turn four and just beat him across the finish line. Chuck Baird and Jason Frankel won the other qualifying heats. Dixon won the dash. Dixon jumped out to an early lead in feature event, but Tim Ratajczyk used the low side to take the lead on lap two. Ratajczyk held the lead for the next four laps, but Dixon came back strong on the high side and regained the lead on lap six. Dixon and Ratajczyk pulled away from the rest of the field and …
