Pevely, MO (July 18, 2009) I-55 Raceway and Shop N Save Grocery Stores presented the Race Night for Special Champions to raise money for Special Olympics. A big payout was on the line for each division and $5 from every ticket sold went to Special Olympics. WIL 92.3 and afternoon D.J. Bo Matthews was on hand to help promote the event.

There was $5,000 to win on the line for the UMP DIRTcar Late Model division which brought in a few the top drivers from around the Midwest. However it was Highland, Illinois driver Randy Korte taking home the top prize. Korte led all thirty laps of the main event as he held off the challenges of Dennis Erb, Jr. for the first half of the event and then turned back the challenge of Billy Moyer in the closing laps. Korte paced the field through heavy lapped traffic as he held on to the lead. Erb would run second for most of the event but Moyer would take advantage of lapped traffic and take the spot from Erb. Erb tried to fight back but made contact with Moyer entering turn one with four laps remaining and narrowly avoided spinning. That would give Moyer the advantage and let him pull away and mount a challenge on Korte on the final lap. But he would come up short in his effort and settle for second. Erb would take third with Brian Shirley finishing fourth. Mark Voigt would complete the top five.

Former NASCAR driver and I-55 Raceway co-owner Ken Schrader brought out a brand new UMP DIRTcar Modified built by Impressive Race Cars and impressive it was as Schrader took the lead from pole sitter Tim Hancock half-way through the main event and pulled away to a strong victory. Conrad Miner had his best run ever at I-55 Raceway and he would finish a strong second. Matt Mevert, who was making his first appearance of 2009 at I-55 Raceway made a last lap pass on Hancock to take the third spot. Hancock would finish fourth with Scott Weber rounding out the top five.

Troy Naeger would dominate the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event. Naeger led all twenty laps of the main event as he pulled away to victory. Dave Armstrong had a solid run as he finished in the second spot with Trey Harris, Ronnie Bader and Steve Edgecombe rounding out the top five.

Josh Range won his first UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stock main event of 2009 at I-55 Raceway. Range led every lap enroute to the win. Sixteen year old Blake Jost had his best finish ever in his rookie season as he took the second spot. Philip Stuart would take the third spot with Jacob Buechting finishing fourth. His sister Jessica Buechting would take fifth and their mom Jackie Buechting took sixth. Their dad, Gerald Buechting would finish tenth.
