Moyer Dominates I-55 Summer Nationals!
PEVELY, MO (June 30, 2001) Billy Moyer picked up his fourth UMP Summer Nationals win in 2001 by dominating the competition at I-55 Raceway. Moyer and Ed Dixon started on the front row and Dixon jumped out to the early lead. Dixon led until lap seven, and then Moyer used the high side of the track to drive past Dixon. Moyer pulled away and opened up large lead.

Bill Frye worked his way through traffic from his seventh starting position and moved into second. Frye was unable to make a serious challenge to Moyer and settled for a second place finish. The biggest battle on the racetrack was for third position. Shannon Babb, Brian Birkhofer, Ed Dixon and Don OÂ’Neal battled two and three wide through lapped traffic. Shannon Babb won the battle for third. Brian Birkhofer passed Dixon and OÂ’Neal on the final lap to claim fourth. Dixon was fifth and OÂ’Neal was sixth. The cars rounding out the top ten were all one lap down and they were Kevin Weaver in seventh, Kevin Gundaker eighth, Ken Schrader ninth and Tim Ratajczyk tenth.

In the UMP Modified division, Jim Shereck led all twenty-five laps to claim the victory. Scott Weber was able to consistently pull along side of Shereck, but could never make a pass and had to settle for second place. Ray Walsh came from his fourteenth starting position to finish third. Sixteen year old Kyle Steffens was fourth and Leroy Haney fifth.

Paul Belken held off a late race charge from Troy Naeger to claim his seventh AARA Sportsman feature win this season. Naeger came from the twenty-second starting spot but came up just inches short at the line and finished second. Nick Werner, Paul Bauman and Sam Worley rounded out the top five.
